• Introduction

East Side Elementary is one of seven elementary schools in the Clay Community School Corporation. We are located at 936 National Avenue in the heart of downtown Brazil, IN. Our school serves approximately 275 students including preschool through 5th grade.

East Side was constructed in 1957 and in 1970 an addition was added to the existing structure. In 2010, an additional five classrooms, as well as an updated gym were completed. Currently, our school is equipped with a computer lab, Mimio Teaching Technologies interactive whiteboards, 3 portable laptop computer carts, and a small number of ipads. East Side is a warm, welcoming, updated facility where students can learn in a safe and nurturing environment.

Currently, our staff consists of 13 regular classroom teachers, a Title 1 coordinator, 2 special education teachers, 3 special area teachers, several special services professionals, 2 parent liaisons and instructional assistants at each grade level.

At East Side, we follow the 8-Step Process for school improvement. This process emphasizes high expectations for teachers and students alike. We follow a carefully planned curriculum guide and assess students often to check for mastery of concepts. Using the data we receive from several different assessments, we shift our teaching to meet the academic needs of each student. Early in our day, we remediate students in areas where they need extra support and therefore it is essential for parents to bring students to school on time each day.

Throughout the year, we host various academic, community building, and social events. Please watch our website and the information coming home with your child to take advantage of all that East Side has to offer.

We believe every child can learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We look forward to linking arms with parents in educating children for bright and successful futures.
