Message From the Principal

Welcome! My name is Jeff Allen and I am the principal of North Clay Middle School. I hope that you find this site helpful in accessing information about our school. If you have further questions, I encourage you to contact the school office and I will be glad to talk with you.

North Clay Middle School is located in Brazil, Indiana. It is the only middle-level configuration in the Clay Community district. Annunciation Catholic, Cornerstone Christian, Eastside, Forest Park, Jackson Township, Meridian, Staunton, and Van Buren elementary schools feed into North Clay Middle School. The facility presently provides services for 940 students in grades six through eight.

North Clay Middle School utilizes the teaming concept. This involves scheduling students into rotation classes only during the teachers' prep time. Teaming pairs two to five core academic teachers with a group of 125 students. Teaming provides more continuity for the student, more communication with the parents, and allows for interdisciplinary planning. In addition, it enables parents to meet with all their children's team teachers at the same time. We have an eight period day. This day consists of 45 minutes of instructional time per class, and a 20-minute homeroom each day. A guidance counselor and administrator meet with each team weekly to discuss student needs.

An on-going process has been established to update the curriculum and to ensure alignment with Indiana Academic Standards. This process involves writing, implementing, and evaluating the various disciplines on a rotating basis by a committee made up of teachers, administrators, and parents. All curriculum areas have been reviewed, and curriculum guides have been developed. Data from many different sources are used in an effort to provide programs that will ensure academic success for all of our students.
